Where Mérida’s History Finds a New Home

Some properties are simply built. Others are rescued, reinvented, and brought back to life with a new story to tell.

In the heart of Mérida, this remarkable project began with an extraordinary challenge: transforming what was once the iconic Templo Maya Restaurant, a beloved landmark of Yucatecan culture that welcomed locals and visitors alike for more than forty years with a diverse and memorable culinary experience.

Rather than choosing demolition, the project embraced the essence of the original structure. The existing masonry walls were preserved as silent witnesses to decades of history, while an entirely new structural system was carefully integrated to ensure safety, longevity, and modern comfort. New columns, beams, and reinforcement elements provide the structural rigidity necessary to support the renovated second floor, seamlessly blending the strength of traditional construction with contemporary engineering standards.

The result is an architectural composition that breathes Yucatán’s identity. Warm finishes, handcrafted textures, rich woodwork, and carefully orchestrated natural light create serene and inviting spaces that remain deeply connected to the historic character of their surroundings.

On the upper level, the experience reaches one of its most captivating highlights: an intimate rooftop terrace featuring a cozy jacuzzi with views over Mérida’s Historic Center. From this elevated retreat, the city unfolds through its colonial facades, timeless streets, and unmistakable atmosphere, offering a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection.

The renovation was comprehensive in every sense. The entire electrical, plumbing, and sanitary infrastructure was rebuilt from the ground up, incorporating modern, efficient systems throughout the property. The home also features a contemporary biodigester and water cistern system, ensuring sustainable and reliable water management for years to come.

More than a renovation, this is a thoughtfully crafted second life. Its versatile layout and distinctive character make it equally suitable as a permanent residence or as a highly attractive Airbnb investment, offering guests an authentic experience in one of the city’s most desirable locations.

Its location ultimately makes it a truly exceptional opportunity. Situated within easy reach of Mérida’s most important historical, cultural, and gastronomic attractions, while also enjoying quick access to the city’s thriving northern district, the property offers the best of both worlds.

This home is more than a collection of square footage and quality finishes; it is a place where history, identity, location, and thoughtful design come together. A place where the past has been honored, the present has been carefully crafted, and the future awaits its next chapter.

An extraordinary real estate opportunity in the heart of Mérida—ready to be discovered.
